The Mansion is a 135-year-old residence that has been transformed into a 28-room “Butler Service” hotel. Abandon for 20 years, the new owner began work in the spring of 2000 and after a $2.7 million dollar renovation, opened the following spring.

The first priority was to keep the home’s original character by refurbishing architectural elements. With the backdrop in place, a classic modern-style was introduced by creating soothing, uncluttered spaces to emphasize shape, form, and texture. The abundance of natural light, high ceilings, and shape of the rooms on the first floor allowed Dario to incorporate hotel operations without disturbing the natural flow and function of existing rooms. This eclectic style gives a modern feeling to the Beaux Arts mansion.

Exterior:

At the turn of the century, Buffalo, New York, was considered one of the most affluent cities in the United States. To its credit, it was selected as the host city of the Pan American Games in 1901,is the birth place of two Presidents, and its proximity to Niagra Falls guaranteed its electrical advantage.

Abandoned for the last twenty years, the mansion suffered from neglect. It was purchased in 1998, by a local developer, who envisioned restoring the property and converting it into a boutique hotel. The project took four years of planning before opening in the spring of 2001.

Entry Hall:

Upon arrival at the Mansion, guests are greeted in the entry hall by a butler who expedites the registration process. A key design goal was to salvage the interior architectural elements. The 40-foot long entrance hall features hand-milled black walnut wainscot; deep door casings with beaux-arts style millwork, and 18-foot plaster ceilings. The space sets the mood and character for the main level.

Ballroom:

The ballroom and library spaces combine to seat 160 guests. The space is a careful blend of the Mansion's former great room space and modern styling. The past is remembered in the room's shape and volume. The adjacent porch, beyond the three window openings, has been incorporated into the space. A monumental staircase leads guests from the pre-function area below up to the ballroom area. Additional room features are the chandeliers with colored cathedral glass and wooden chairs. Unexpectedly, walls are finished with pleated drapery for a soft feeling.
