The Mansion is a 135-year-old residence that has been transformed into a 28-room “Butler Service” hotel. Abandon for 20 years, the new owner began work in the spring of 2000 and after a $2.7 million dollar renovation, opened the following spring.
The first priority was to keep the home’s original character by refurbishing architectural elements. With the backdrop in place, a classic modern-style was introduced by creating soothing, uncluttered spaces to emphasize shape, form, and texture. The abundance of natural light, high ceilings, and shape of the rooms on the first floor allowed Dario to incorporate hotel operations without disturbing the natural flow and function of existing rooms. This eclectic style gives a modern feeling to the Beaux Arts mansion.

Located in the heart of Westchester County, the Crowne Plaza Hotel - White Plains, NY is a prime destination for business and leisure travelers. The existing interior style was outdated and lacked a fresh first impression. In 2010 the Owner’s undertook a major renovation of the main public spaces to update the Hotel’s image. The results are an open, modern plan with inviting elements drawing focus to the decor. To add rich details in the lobby, existing columns were clad in ebony wood. Decorative chandeliers were incorporated to improve lighting. Large scale seating was added to create conversation groups. An “open plan” for the business center strikes a note for visible energy.
One key request in the restaurant design was to remove the temporary buffet and provide a semi-private, built-in buffet for breakfast and lunch service. A second key element was the introduction of a glass railing in lieu of the existing low wall. These two changes along with the elimination of a “wheelchair lift” transfers the restaurant into a modern facility.
The bar lounge area received an “extreme make-over.” All but the basic bar elements were removed. A new concept features sleek materials and finishes which are complemented by colors changing lights.
The outdated and inefficient public restrooms were completed renovated. New finishes and space planning lead to a modern unexpected design. Modern fixtures and back-lit mirrors highlight the space.

With a 25 million dollar budget, the creative team transformed a 40-year-old, neglected, 360 room hotel into “a state of the art facility” in 18 months. This accomplishment brings a top renovation award within the hotel system.
The scope of work included a complete interior and exterior refurbishment to update and modernize the infrastructure and comply with Brand Standards. Substantial improvements can be found in the Guest Rooms and Suites, which were totally renovated including new bathroom finishes and amenities. The bedding package is highlighted with a tall upholstered headboard, “health-smart” pillow top sleep foundations, and accented with white sheeting with a custom scarf.
The public area work included moving an interior bar/lounge space to a more visible guest location with the goal to “capture pedestrian friendly traffic along Falls Street.” Hallmark features for the new sports bar include a faux tin ceiling, textured brick walls, vintage mirrors over an old fashion style bar, an antique Cigar Indian. Other amenities included the introduction of a Starbucks Coffee Shop, major refurbishment of the indoor pool as well as adding an upscale fitness center. The design team introduced modern style furnishing and finishes throughout the property.
Behind the scenes, updates include a new kitchen, new mechanical and life safety system upgrades, compliance with ADA codes, and refurbished administration and employee areas.
