To add sizzle to the newly renovated Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Owner teamed with Ruth’s Chris Steak House turning a once Country Western bar into a luxury four-star restaurant. The first step was to demolish the existing bar, taking it back to studs. The team began with a major reconfiguration and reappointment of the space to promote the Ruth’s Chris brand. A large bar lounge area was located at the entry. Three private dining rooms were incorporated for corporate functions and private parties. Finally, semiprivate dining areas were added to the generous diningroom for more intimacy. Artwork was selected to complement the menu. Hallmarks include wine, vineyards, local history and social gathering scenes. The atmosphere is contemporary and comfortable,

Recognizing the space’s potential, the design team presented concept images and sketches to solidify the Owner’s vision for an upscale coffee bar. Considerations for materials, lighting and furnishings were finalized with the Owner’s watchful eye on his budget. To ensure continuity, the Owner consulted with the design team on the shop’s logo design and brand identity.
The decision to remove the existing acoustical tile ceiling was one of the biggest changes to the shop. By raising the ceiling, the space left its generic appearance behind and became a more modern industrial atmosphere. To create a focal point at the espresso and bar areas, a soffit was suspended above the cabinetry. To complete the industrial look the design team stained the concrete floor with a custom mix of chocolate and amber tones.
The Owner’s request for a high-style space on a limited budget was achieved. The formula is based on the strong contrast of materials and colors, and a collection of contemporary furnishings. The attention to illumination is not only the decorative fixture, but the shadows created in the space. The results are a unique coffee shop environment attracting the discerning coffee drinker.
